" Guten Tag! "

"Good day!" As one of the most popular greetings, "Guten Tag"could be used between 0900-1700 hrs in a day. This phrase is applicable to both formal and informal occasions.

" Wie geht's? "

"How's it going?" The short form of "wie geht es dir" is another common greeting. While in formal situations, " wie geht es Ihnen" is used.

" Freut mich. "

"Nice to meet you/ my pleasure." This greeting is used when people get to know one another for the first time.

" Auf Wiedersehen. "

"Goodbye/See you again!" This is a farewell under formal occasions.

"Tschüs!”

"Bye!" This word is used to bid farewell in informal situations only. i.e. among friends, family members, etc.

"Danke!"

"Thanks!" It is acceptable in both formal and informal conversations. Similar expressions include "Dankeschön!" "Vielen Dank!" and "Ich danke dir!"
